On July 27, 2013, The Kuykendall Family completed the 5k Warrior Dash Mud Run.  The race was a very challenging obstacle course that goes over, under and through mud.  As Darlene exclaimed, "Did I mention MUD!"  There were over 23,000 participants and  Bayley placed 5th and Jaymey 15th overall!  Casey finished strong as did Mom and Dad, and Ryeley captured it all as the family photographer.  The family dedicated their heat to Quincy and wore tee-shirts with her picture and her wish that "all kids with cancer could be all better."  "It was a family event in memory of Quin and we all had a really great time!", said Darlene.

It makes sense that Quincy would have amazing and compassionate girlfriends as she was that kind of girl herself!  For many years now, Quincy's girlfriends have started the holiday season baking cookies and breads  to raise money for the QLF.  Each year the girls seem to out do themselves and raise even more than the previous year.  As they did their part, our  vendors on November 15th at the Holiday Boutique did theirs, selling handbags, stationary, accessories, jewelry, specialty skin products, and confections, along side our cashmere products. Everyone generously donated a portion of their proceeds to pediatric cancer research.  A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped out on that day!

On October 24, 2012 the SF Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers in game one of the World Series, but that's not all!  During the fifth inning, fans, broadcasters, umpires and players all "Stood Up 2 Cancer" displaying placards  that were given out upon entry into the park for people to write the names of their loved ones affected by cancer.  It was a very unifying moment as most everyone had a name they could write. Cancer does not discriminate  Our good friend here, Michael Fahey, wrote "Quincy"
on his card.  Major funding was raised this fall through Stand Up to Cancer and the Giants went on the win the World Series...again!

"Life in the Walnut Creek Garden" was held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, from 11am-4pm. Five private residential gardens were available for a self-guided tour with knowledgeable docents on each property. It was a great afternoon to stroll beautifully landscaped backyards with water features, kitchen and dining areas, gardening plots, and children's play areas. John Montgomery, the designer and landscape architect of these five gardens was on hand to answer questions along with many extras at each house including  live music by two different bands... a cooking demonstration on Mexican food in honor of Cinco de Mayo... bee keeping and farming professionals...home decor and garden accessories from local artisans... homemade goodies from Quincy's girlfriends...and a raffle to win one of Esin Restaurant and Bar's awarding winning desserts! It was truly a wonderful day in the garden!

The QLF had its Second Annual Holiday Boutique on December 6th, 2011 at 411 Hartz Ave., Danville. Terrific merchandise was available to fulfill those holiday wish lists. A sample of our goodies included: handbags and accessories, bed jackets, lotions, blankets, stationary, hand-crafted jewelry, tabletop gifts and decor, kids clothing, Fuzzy Duds, delicious homemade treats, kitchen gadgets, nut and chocolate confections, and plenty of stocker stuffers! As always, a percentage of all sales went toward pediatric cancer care and research. The highlight of the event however was the effort of Quincy's girlfriends who baked numerous bags of homemade cookies and sold them making over $800 from the sales!

Henry Wright's Heart held the 3rd Annual Benefit for the Quincy Lee Foundation at the Parker House in Sea Girt, New Jersey, on September 19, 2011. It proved to be a very successful event once again! Most restaurants returned from last year, offering their fabulous food specialties in stations set up around the porch - Bar Anticipation, Boathouse, Brandl, The Cabin, The Column's, Edgar's Pub, Freedman's, Green Planet Coffee, Langosta Lounge, Mossuto's Market, Parker House Raw Bar, Smith's, and Viva's. Four Winds and McGillicuddy's Restaurants were new to the the mix this year. The local beer and wine distributors - Ritchie and Page, Crown Beer, Pt. Pleasant, Shore and R & R Liquors made sure guests enjoyed themselves with complimentary libations, and put everyone in the mood for bidding on terrific auction items! Once again a big hit in the silent auction was the vacation home in Maine and a ghost tour at Pennhurst, PA! We send a sincere thank you to all our friends and families who helped make this a wonderful event and to all our supporters who generously donated and attended the event.

On June 30th, the QLF hosted a "Red, White and Blue Luncheon" for all the families of pediatric patients. The weather was beautiful and we were able to have it outside in the 6Long Courtyard behind the playroom at UCSF. As we know from our extensive hospital experience with Quincy, a breath of fresh air and a comforting break from treatment, is one of the best things you can offer an inpatient family. Specialty sandwiches, chips and drinks, plus homemade cookies and cupcakes baked by Quincy's girlfriends, Christina and Natalie Deveraux, Julia Karczewski, Megan McSweeney, and Lauren Devine were enjoyed by everyone! All families also received gift bags packed with fun and functional items for their hospital stays and beyond.

Eat Pie - Fight Cancer 2011

6/18/2011

Picture
"Eat pie - fight cancer," was Alex Ackerman's 8th grade community - service project for the QLF. Alex, a student at Athenian School in Danville, CA, has a knack for making apple pies from scratch (crust included!). He decided to sell pies to raise money for the 4th of July Luncheon that the Quincy Lee Foundation was hosting for all the families of pediatric patients at UCSF. Due to an overwhelming positive response to his request, he needed to recruit several buddies and family members for a day of pie making. That evening, 15 warm apple pies were delivered to some very happy customers. Alex also contacted the SF Giants Baseball team to see if they could contribute to the UCSF event. The SF Giants organization generously donated banners, bracelets and baseballs that put smiles on many faces at the hospital! Thank you Alex for all your efforts!

ESIN Restaurant 2010

12/24/2010

On Christmas Eve, Esin deCarion started work at 5:00am at her awarding winning restaurant, Esin, where she and her husband Curtis are the chefs and owners. She had to get an early start to fulfill all the dessert orders that she sold at the QLF Holiday Boutique and very generously donated to the foundation. Some QLF volunteer friends helped with the preparation and had a great time working side by side with the master chef and baker! Generosity seems to run in the deCarion family. Later that day, Esin's sons, Alper and Memet raised money for the Quincy Lee Foundation by selling bookmarks and ornaments outside of their parent's restaurant. Since both Esin and Curtis were working on Christmas Eve, the boys thought it would be a good night to set up a table outside the restaurant and raise awareness about pediatric cancer. Memet even serenaded guests playing his trombone. Thank you deCarion Family!
